Alex Salmond vs #MeToo Movement

Alex Salmond Charged with 14 offences

Scotland’s former First Minister, Alex Salmond stated he was innocent of 14 offences. Mr Salmond was charged with multiple counts of sexual assault and two attempted rape’s in January 2019. Salmond appeared in court for a private hearing and was charged with the 14 offences. Salmond entered no plea during the hearing and was released on bail.

Appearing outside the court afterwards he told reporters he was not guilty of any wrongdoing. He stated

“Let me say from the outset, I am innocent of any criminality whatsoever. The only thing that I can say is I refute absolutely these allegations of criminality and I will defend myself to the utmost in court. I’ve got great faith in the court system in Scotland [and] that is where I will state my case. You know me well enough to know that I’d love to say a great deal more but I have got to observe the rules of the court and in court is where I will state my case.”

Salmond was charged in January 2019 after voluntarily attending a police station with his solicitor, and he was released after agreeing to appear in court. This provides clear evidence that politicians receive preferential treatment because of their status and power. Alex Salmond was on bail for over a year before going on trial. However many men are awaiting court dates in prison under false accusations without any privileges.
