Prison Staff Restrain Frail Prisoner And Kill Him – HMP Littlehey

Prison staff in HMP Littlehey inappropriately restrained “frail” inmates undergoing cancer treatment. One 81 year old James Baldwin, was left lying naked on the floor of his cell twice, shortly before he died. The prisoners ombudsman stated; “I am very concerned that he was left lying naked on the floor of his cell for two long periods in the hour before he died.”

Mr Baldwin had been serving a 15-year sentence in HMP Littlehey for sexual offences, he was diagnosed with incurable lung cancer and signed a Do Not Resuscitate order. On three hospital visits he was restrained with handcuffs or an escort chain. The prisoners ombudsman report stated; it was not “appropriate or proportionate” to use restraints given his “poor health” and low risk of escape. However the ombudsman is useless, they just release statements but take no action to actually help prisoners. It’s an inside job, they cover up the mistakes of the prison service in the UK.
